09.10 || FIRST LOOK: SONG HYE KYO'S HOLLYWOOD DEBUT
Top star Song Hye Kyo's Hollywood advancement project will make its premiere at this year's Pusan International Film Festival. Originally titled 'Fetish' but now changed to'Make Yourself at Home,' the film will have its first ever public viewing at this year's Pusan International Film Festival's gala presentation.
Officials revealed the news during a press conference held on the 9th in Seoul at Gwanghwamun's Press Center.
A project jointly funded by the U.S. and Korea, 'Make Yourself at Home' is also director Soon Soo Bum's (graduate of New York University) first feature-length film. In this film, Song Hye Kyo takes the role of a sorceress named 'Sookhy' who has an innate disposition.
The story begins when Korean American 'Peter' (Rob Yang) marries Sookhy through a marriage broker. Beautiful yet a bit strange, Sookhy is a woman who posseses special powers which runs in her family. She relocates to the U.S. in hopes of avoiding the spiritual powers but finds herself unable to escape it.
This year's Pusan International Film Festival will be held from October 2nd to 10th.
The classic tale, Butterfly Lovers goes on screen across China on September 11th. The film is eagerly anticipated by audiences and film critics. Directed by acclaimed Hong Kong director Jingle Ma, the film stars some of the hottest pop icons on the Chinese entertainment scene. There're Wu Zun, Charlene Choi and Hu Ge to name a few.
The story is loosely based on the classical Chinese love tale of the same name. Director Ma has added some touches of his own - like Kung Fu. The film's title is literally translated as “Sword Butterfly”.
Zhu Yanzhi is the daughter of a wealthy family whose fortune comes from the pottery trade. She's vivacious. Her nature is unclouded and she loves to play all day. Life changes when she meets Liang Zhongshan.
Zhu Yanzhi disguises herself as a boy to follow this attractive young man to a school of Kung Fu. Acclaimed Hong Kong action choreographer Ching Siu-tung directs the martial arts sequences.
Popular television odd couple, Jeanie (Ariel Lin) and Michael (Joe Cheng), are back for more romantic adventures as newlyweds in the highly anticipated kwelanovela sequel of "It Started with a Kiss"— "They Kiss Again" beginning Tuesday, July 29th.
After all they have been through, the two finally decided to tie the knot and face the challenges of early married life.

The aspiring doctor unexpectedly runs into a girl from his past, and meets four new friends, one of which wishes to replace him in Jeanie's heart.

Meteor Garden (traditional Chinese: ????; pinyin: Liu Xing Hua Yuan) is a Taiwanese drama that began its broadcast 12 April 2001 on China Television. It is Taiwan's attempt at a live version of the Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango. It stars Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu, Ken Chu and Barbie Hsu. The plot centers on a plain and poor teenage girl called Shan Cai, who goes to a university for rich people, forced upon her by her parents. The university is dominated by a gang of handsome but arrogant students called F4, who are the heirs of the most influential families in Taiwan.
In the beginning, Dao Ming Si, the gang leader, hates Shan Cai so much that he makes everyone in the university play tricks on her. However, Shan Cai's persistence gradually gains Si's respect and later he falls in love with her. Like many other TV series, the lovers end up getting together after going through a series of painful challenges.
Meteor Garden was very popular in Asia. In the Philippines, the four main male characters, with a band called F4, had a sold-out concert. Due to the popularity of the series throughout Asia, two sequels, Meteor Rain and Meteor Garden II, were produced.
The main antagonist is Dao Ming Si's judgmental, arrogant mother Dao Ming Feng who is somewhat based on Kaede Doumyoji in Hana Yori Dango. However she is seen to be not as evil as her Japanese counterpart.

Synopsis:
A woman's life all depends on her looks. So what happens if she's born ugly? This story is about a girl, nowhere near attractive, who was born where ugliness runs in the family.
This pitiful girl, who has no luck with men, thanks to her "not so pretty" looks, turned to her last resort: a face lift. She travels all the way to the Mediterranean to transform into a living beauty. Now she can finally get her hands on love and happiness. After returning to Japan, she starts a glamorous life as a fashion model: something she had always longed for.
Still, day after day, she is obsessed with the feeling that her big secret may come to light. The face lift was able to change her face, but not her "ugly personality."
She's an artificial beauty: vulnerable, fragile, and struggling for love. Will she manage to get the love of her life?
This is the ultimate love story that portrays every woman's dream. Be ready for a hilarious, stylish, gorgeous but sad romance.
Honami Saotome is made out of plastic. She's the artificial beauty. Honami seems to have the ideal life, working as a fashion model. Actually, behind her perfect face is a unfortunate girl, born into a family that has a long history of "the ugly bug." During her childhood, she was bullied for being ugly, and dumped tragically by the boy she liked. To bid farewell to all that and start a new life, she decides to have plastic surgery on her entire body. Thanks to her decision, she now leads the life of a princess. Nobody knows that behind her glamorous lifestyle, is a girl afraid that her secret may be found out, or that her face may fall apart. She struggles with her ugly personality that just won't wash away. Though Honami has the inner strength of never giving up, her arrogance of doing anything for her own happiness is just too much.
The other leading character is Ryusui Fujishima, the heir to a grand master of flower arrangement, whose philosophy is, "flower arrangement starts from hating flowers." Within this friendly gentleman who hates formality, is a lonely heart that won't let others in. This is a man that shows no arrogance despite the position he's in. He's actually tired of high society where relationships are just superficial. Ryusui is a man who values essence more than appearance, whether it's flowers or people. Thus, he is attracted not to Honami's looks, but to her tough and bold personality: like a wild flower growing between rocks.

Asianovela is a popular slang in the Philippines for dubbed South Korean, Japanese and Chinese/Taiwanese TV series.
The word Asianovela comes from the words "Asia" or "Asian" and "Novela" from the word "Telenovela". This term was created to define the difference of a normal telenovela to Asian-produced telenovelas. The slang was first used on local internet forums, then became widely used by Filipino people.
The very first Asianovela shown in the Philippines was Amazing Twins, a Taiwanese TV series in July 2002 on IBC-13, but it gained no popularity in the Philippines despite that it was dubbed into Tagalog language.
On May 2003, ABS-CBN shown another Taiwanese TV drama titled Meteor Garden. It gained so much popularity, with its ratings reaching over 45% and F4 posters, CDs and shirts are everywhere. The popularity of this TV drama started the so-called "Asianovela craze" and "Meteor Garden Mania" in the Philippines. ABS-CBN later showned its prequel, Meteor Rain and sequel, Meteor Garden II and become successful as well.
.TERMS
The term Asianovela was the common word for Asian TV dramas. However, for the sake of exact definition, Asianovela fans created 3 more slangs:
Chinovela - for Chinese and Taiwanese TV Dramas. Koreanovela - for Korean TV Dramas. JDorama - for Japanese TV Dramas.
.CRITITISMS AND POPULARITY
Asianovelas shown in the Philippines are always top-raters in the ratings game. So many people requested for replays for the Asian series, some requested cocerts and visits for the stars of that Asianovela. Some are even cosplaying, and even following the trends, hairstyles, dress and clothes of they're favorite Asianovela characters.
Some people criticize Asianovelas as a "one sider" or it focuses only on its story rather than putting so much plot-holes. Some said that Asianovelas are "culture threat".
However, the popularity of Asianovelas, particularly Meteor Garden, shown at 5:30 p.m. daily, has also raised a howl of protest. Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Consoliza P. Laguardia earlier brought to the attention of ABS-CBN vice president for TV Cory Vidanes the complaints against the program, that certain episodes of which are said to have violated the provisions of the censorship law.
Bulacan Rep. Willie Villarama has called for the banning of "Meteor Garden," noting that it was also banned in China, where parents reportedly complained that the show had a bad effect on society and the young.
Laguardia also ordered ABS-CBN to submit each episode of "Meteor Garden" to the board for review and approval prior to telecast.
In a letter to Laguardia last June 4, Maloli Espinosa-Manalastas, ABS-CBN vice president for government and corporate affairs and PR, assured the MTRCB chair that the network would exercise self-regulation and "closely review the presentation of the program".
Despite on negative criticisms, Asianovelas continue to rule Filipino TV sets everyday and everynight.
